Enthusiasm for wines which – simply – are good

The Simon-Buerkle Winery was founded by the late Kurt Simon, a native-born Zwingenberger, and Wilfried Buerkle, a native of Baden, in 1991, upon completion of their studies at the Weinsberg Viticultural School & Experimental Station, where they first became acquainted.

Prior to that Kurt Simon had completed studies at the Bergstrasse State Winery and subsequently went to Stellenbosch Winery in South Africa to serve his apprenticeship being responsible for cellar operations. Kurt Simon died in February, 2003.

Wilfried Buerkle learned the vintner’s trade at the Bercher Winery in Burkheim, Kaiserstuhl, near Freiburg/Breisgau, Baden. After completing his studies, he served as administrator of the Rheinburg Orchards and Winery on the Upper Rhine.

From the very beginning of their association the two vintners found that they shared the same affinities in terms of philosophy, sense of quality and environmental consciousness, and creativity, all of which was underlined by a genuine friendship. Their enthusiasm for wines which were simply good, their joy in wine flavors, and their common feeling about fruit and clarity in wines were apparent from the very beginning. And nothing has changed about this sense of wine-making to this very day.
